Lewis is a really keen up and coming (as he says) fisher boy. He’s a great lad with plenty of questions which is nice to see. It was an enjoyable day.

See photo of Lewis and a couple of mackerel.

The boat fishing boys from up Javier way are still catching more than we are! And I’ll remind everyone they have a better position on the Med. (That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.)

Shore Fishing.

‘London Bill’ has had a good week catching melva tuna, mackerel, Atlantic scad, palomete and one sea bass. All we caught spinning around Garrucha’s harbour rocks and Macenas rocks.

Another ‘Bill’ over on holiday from the UK spun around Garrucha’s rocks and caught 15 good size Atlantic scad and one melva tuna. Bill didn’t know about having to have a license and he was lucky!
Coarse Fishing.

‘Baza Barry’ fished again with his mates from the UK and caught plenty of carp and barbel from Baza Lake (Negratin). Barry also caught what he thinks was some sort of chub. I caught a few many years ago and know they are in the lake and are either rare or hard to catch. I’ve never seen one bigger than 1/2lb.

‘Abbey Angling’s’ first match of the winter series was fished at the Eden Canal.

Fishing at Murcia you cannot get past the bleak, but at Eden it is full of the ‘Terrible Terrapins’ ranging from an inch diameter to the size of a dinner plate. There was a fair flow on the water, but we drastically need a good storm to flush the water through.

Although the winning weight was fairly good most anglers were struggling to make 10lbs, bait varied between maggot and corn with bread taking small mullet.

Since the clubs have been managing the water there seems to be less litter on the banks, which is good news. All the lads send their best wishes to Don Whitney on a speedy recovery following his recent operation, and they look forward to seeing him back fishing again soon.

1st Clive (No more Golf) Cleghorn with 25.3/4lbs fishing the pole using corn.
2nd Bob (The Major) Rafferty with 14.3/4lbs fishing the pole using corn.
3rd Dave (The sweetie man) Hutchinson with 13.3/4lbs fishing the pole using paste.

All details are available on their website www.abbeyangling.com or from the Match Secretary Terry Screen on 965328368.

The Albox fishing club meets every two weeks or so at Bar Wassy. For details of the next meeting tel Sid 634 313 650.
Latest license information.

There is a new loophole for those without a nie number who want an Andalucian beach and/or boat fishing license. It will mean a trip in person to Almeria with a friend who has a nie number and it has a 50/50 chance of working! The other loophole for fishing the beaches and boats in Andalucia without an NIE document is to make a trip to Murcia. Or the new UK sea fishing license should suffice BUT although we have been told this can be used here I have not seen a copy of this rule on paper and so it could be a problem if pulled up by the police who probably don’t know about the rule.
There is now a loophole for those wanting coarse fishing licenses for Andalucia who don’t have NIE documents or/and don’t want to do the 24 hour course in Spanish, see me for more details. There is talk of an agreement between all regions for any license to be used elsewhere, watch this space.

I’m pleased to report the Beachcomber’s three web cams are working again and the other good news is they work on both 32 and 64 bit systems and on any browser so checkout Mojacar’s weather and Mediterranean Sea conditions here. www.beachcombermojacar.com/beachcomber-webcam/

For up to date information on any of the above see John at the Beachcomber Bar Restaurant on Mojacar Playa or tel 950 473 099. In case of difficulty reaching me (Probably out fishing) ask staff for my mobile number. You can also contact me on Facebook @ ‘John Beachcomber Mojacar’.

Tight lines, Beachcomber John.
