SPAIN CONDEMNS RACISM

The Minister of Justice in Spain, Alberto Ruiz-Gallardón, has stressed that that Spain condemns racism and xenophobia “more than in any other European country”, which will be reflected in the new Penal Code.

The announcement came after Eva Parera of the CiU claimed the “trivialization of the Holocaust and Nazism” after public demonstrations branded her a “Nazi” by anti-eviction protestors.

The senator has said that “We only ask for a referendum within the law”, that appeals for dialogue, prudence and tolerance instead of hatred.

The new regulations will impose severe penalties on criminal actions inciting hatred or violence against groups or persons based on race, religion, ethnicity or belonging to minority groups and will punish genocide denial or praising of crimes against humanity, and acts of humiliation or discriminatory intent.
