The Judge presiding over the investigation into the Santiago train crash in July, Luis Aláez, has called five people from track operators ADIF to testify in the case, as well as requesting information relating to the identities of those who were responsible for track safety on the line where 79 people lost their lives and more than a hundred were injured.
In a report issued on Tuesday, the judge stated that, in view of the chart submitted by ADIF, it is possible to consider “reckless potential perpetrators of deadly and harmful results”, calling the Director of Traffic Safety, Manuel B.G., and the Northwest Area Manager for Traffic Safety, Fernando R.S., who are required to attend court on September the 18th.
In addition to those managers, the judge has also called for three others to attend on September the 19th, José Antonio G.D., the head of Area Inspections and Traffic Safety-Northwest, and two inspectors, Carlos A.G. and Roberto S.A.
Although it is not unusual in such a high profile case for senior managers to be called to testify, the Judge is also requesting information as to the identity of all persons who have had positions of responsibility for rail safety, and at all levels of management.
