Mazarron’s fine start to the season came to an abrupt end when they failed to capitalise on a 2-0 lead and, in the end, were well beaten by CD Juvenia who had drawn their first two games.

Mazarron took the lead after just five minutes when Pescao ran on to a fine through ball from Alcaraz and slotted the ball home past the advancing keeper. Young goalkeeper Ruben came to Mazarron’s rescue four minutes later with a superb save from point blank range.

Mazarron continued to press forward and Tico’s free kick was headed wide by Jose Ruben. Then, after 20 minutes, Mazarron increased their lead. Chema was fouled on the edge of the penalty area and Tico’s perfectly flighted free kick nestled in the top corner of the net.

CD Juvenia came more into the game as the first half progressed and Ruben had to be alert to save a free kick from 30 yards. However, poor defending by Mazarron allowed the home side back into the game three minutes before half time when a right wing cross was turned in at the far post to make the score CD Juvenia 1 Mazarron 2.

The experienced Cecilio replaced Pescao at half time but Mazarron were never in the game after the interval. Too many players were ineffectual and CD Juvenia grew in confidence as the half progressed. They equalised after 54 minutes after a goalmouth scramble ended with a far post header which gave Ruben no chance.

Cecilio broke through minutes later but his poor cross failed to find a Mazarron forward and the ball was cleared. Juan Andreu had a shot saved following an Alfonso free kick but it was CD Juvenia who took the lead for the first time after 70 minutes when poor defending by Mazarron allowed a right wing cross to be forced home at the far post.

Then in the final minutes an error by the usually dependable Juan Andreu let in a Juvenia forward who easily beat the advancing Ruben to make the final score 4-2 in favour of the home team.

The result showed that Mazarron have a lot to do to maintain a push for promotion. Too many players had an off day but hopefully normal service will be resumed at the next game, at home to Sangonera La Verde, next Sunday 6th October kick off 5.30 pm
