The town hall at San Isidro has launched a program of drug prevention workshops, in collaboration with the UMH, with nearly 1,000 euro funding being provided by the council.
The aim of the workshops is to teach 10 and 11 year old children of the dangers of drugs, with a total of eight workshops being held. The initiative is in line with similar campaigns for alcohol awareness, with the intention being preventative action to control what is sometimes seen as an escalating problem of drug and alcohol abuse amongst school children.
Police officers with specially trained dogs have also been known to patrol schools in different areas of Spain, so it is hoped that awareness and education at the earliest possibility is key for preventing further escalation.
