CELEBRATION AND SEPARATION IN TORREVIEJA CEREMONY

The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, led the commemoration celebration of the day of the Valencia community this week, without the presence of most of the political opposition.

The band of the Unión Musical Torrevejense, directed by Jaime Belda, played as the ceremony began, as the patriotic anthems of Spain, Valencia and Torrevieja were performed by the local musicians, as Dolón raised the flag, accompanied by the current Queen of Salt, Nuria Zaragoza Giménez.

Unlike a previous event, the flag was presented the right way up this time, as the entire Partido Popular team, as well as two members of APTCE, the Alternativa Popular group of Torrevieja, proudly presented their allegiance to the ceremony.

However, in a situation that has now become normal, the Psoe and Los Verdes representatives didn´t attend the event, a position that was first announced last year in a move that is intended to show their lack of support and unification for the PP led government, and a situation that wasn´t referred to by Dolón, who continued through the ceremony as a matter of course.

The Mayor did however thank the authorities and councillors who did attend, along with an estimated 250 of the 103,270 citizens of Torrevieja who attended the event, business leaders, senior officers of the Guardia Civil, National and Local Police and a former Mayor, Joaquín García, the socialist leader who led the city council in the 1980´s, having taken over from the very popular Rosa Mazón Valero, before the PP took over in the form of Pedro Ángel Hernández Mateo, in 1991.
