The enforced cessation of work to build a new secondary school on the Orihuela Costa has officially been lifted by the regional government, according to a statement by the Orihuela Partido Popular.

In a meeting in Alicante attended by local PP leaders Pepa Ferrando and David Costa, accompanied by the former mayor or the municipality, Mónica Lorente, the Regional directorate of education confirmed that the work to complete the new school can now be put to tender, following the bankruptcy of the original building firm, which will mean that it is only a matter of time before students being educated in inferior and crammed portacabins will be relocated to a new, state of the art, educational building.

The education department stated that this work is included in the regional budgets for 2014, announced by the president of the Generalitat, Alberto Fabra.

Pepa Ferrando from the PP said that this announcement guarantees the funds to resume construction of the institute of the coast after months of cessation of work, and that the next stage is to tender the work in order for companies to bid to complete the project. Ferrando also stated that the 2014 regional budget also includes funding for the Virgen del Camino School.

In their statement, Ferrando also pointed out that the party are still working on the issues that are “important to the citizens”, whilst emphasising that as the reason for their insistence on locally funding the Rabaloche Health Centre construction, which is also the responsibility at a regional level, and how the schools are important because “now is the time for education”, whilst emphasising the commitments of the Generalitat Valenciana.

As reported on numerous previous occasions, the local government team have been trying to get answers as to when the funding would be granted and the projects completed, but their requests have been all but ignored by the regional board. However, the local PP group consider that the bipartite team had “left these issues to one side “, and so they have “taken the reins from the opposition to get ahead with their goals in education”.
