A SUCCESSFUL START FOR PEPA, THE HELPING HANDS ANIMAL CHARITY

Saturday 19th October saw the Grand Opening of PEPA’s charity shop in Oliva. It would be no exaggeration to say that volunteers were on tenterhooks wondering whether all their hard work in setting up the shop would prove worthwhile.

To everyone’s great joy, the takings at the end of the morning were beyond expectations with PEPA being proud to report that the till totted up a tremendous sum of 435,50 euro!! Throughout the morning volunteers were kept busy with the steady stream of shoppers, including a gratifying number of local Spanish residents who are fast becoming accustomed to the concept of charity shops. Volunteers from the charities MABS and Cáritas also came along to support PEPA, buy a bargain or two and swop ideas and hints. Both these two worthy charities have charity shops in the town of Oliva.

Congratulations are in order to everybody who put in such a lot of time and effort to ensure that the shop got off to a good start in raising additional funds to help the many animals in need.

The PEPA shop is conveniently situated, in Calle Joanot Martorell, opposite the indoor parking entrance to the Mercadona that’s nearby the Health Centre. There’s lots of nearby free parking – and as a bonus you will soon be able to pick up your free English speaking newspapers from there.
