The Guardia Civil have arrested a 34 year old resident of Beniaján in Murcia, identified by the initials JDCA, who was found to be driving a vehicle whilst having three times the rate of permitted alcohol, with a nine year old child in the vehicle.
The incident happened on the RM-302 road which runs from Beniaján to El Palmar, when the officers noticed a vehicle failing to keep a safe distance from the car in front.
The officers then signalled for the offending vehicle to stop, which were ignored by the driver, and so the Guardia Civil continued to pursue the vehicle until it was eventually brought to a stop.
Having then approached the vehicle, the officers noted a young man was driving, accompanied by a child, later to be revealed as his daughter. The officers then asked the driver to provide a mandatory breath test, which showed a positive result of 0.76 mg / l, resulting in the driver being arrested on suspicion of crime of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The severity of this case could result in between 3 and 6 months in prison, a fine or community service, as well as a ban from driving from between 1 and 4 years. Driving whilst not maintaining a safe distance carries an addition fine of 200 euro.
