Officers from the Local Police attended an apartment block on calle Mayor in La Mata this weekend, after neighbours had alerted them to a smell coming from one of the properties.
The owner of the home was identified as a 63 year old male, originally from Madrid, who lived alone having retired to the area.
The Guardia Civil also attended the scene, along with fire fighters, who broke into the property on the instruction of a judge, where the officers found the mummified corpse of the man, lay on the floor of his home, next to the bed.
A forensic examination is being carried out although initial reports indicate that he had died from natural causes and there was no cause for suspicion at the scene.
It is believed that the electricity supply had been cut off to the property and the death may have occurred over 2 weeks ago, but nobody had noticed him missing.
