SIX MORE TOURISM ROUTES FOR ORIHUELA

The Councillor for Tourism in Orihuela, Rosa Martínez, has announced the launch of a new batch of so-called “tourist routes” through Orihuela, which will run throughout the winter, from December to March.

The aim, according to Martínez, is to “promote visits to Orihuela”, whilst offering information about the historic and culture rich city.

The first tour will take place on Sunday the 8th of December, under the tempting title, “Dulces pasos”, or “Sweet steps”’ , which will start from the Orihuela Tourist Office at 10:00, over a walking route of 3.5 kilometres, taking in San Juan de la Penitencia, Trinidad, San Sebastián, Las Salesas and San Francisco, where tasting sessions for a variety of sweets will be available at three of the venues, including tasting such traditional delights as tarta de Santa Clara, as well as Christmas themed sweet treats. Becasue of the expected popularity of this route, there will be limited places available and the tour will be in groups of a maximum of 35 people.

The next tours will take place on both Sunday the 22nd of December and Sunday the 5th of January, which will provide a guided tour of the traditional Christmas nativity scenes, the belenes, this tour organised by the department of culture.

Next, once the Christmas season is over, January the 19th will see a tour of the mill at La Aparecida, through the stunningly beautiful orchards. On the 2nd of February, there will be a tour of El Horno de Bustamante.

Into March, on the 2nd, the tour will visit the historic and culturally rich Murals of San Isidro and on the 23rd of March, the last tour of this season, the guided walk will take visitors along the coastal promenade.

More information can be obtained from the town hall, as well as in the tourist information offices, and with places likely to go quickly, booking is a must. There is also a possibility of extending the routes further, depending on the demand and interest, and a booklet is being produced which will include all of the details of the individual tours, including the length, sights and difficulties for each of the trips.
