PAUL O’GRADY’S ANIMAL ORPHANS

ITV has commissioned a new series which takes Paul O’Grady to Africa to meet animals orphaned in the wild and help hand rear them ready to be released back into nature.

Shiver (Itv Studios Factual production arm) is currently in production with the new 3 part, 60 minute series, Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans, which will air in January 2014.

Following on from the success of Paul O’Grady For The Love of Dogs, also made by Shiver, this series sees Paul travel across South Africa and Zambia.

In each programme, Paul helps to care for and rehabilitate a variety of wild animals including hippos, baboons, rhinos, lions and elephants. He also helps to release a giraffe back into the wild.

Paul O’Grady said: “It’s been an unparalleled gift because for an animal lover like me I’ve been allowed access to all sorts of creatures. Everything from a penguin to a baby elephant, not just through bars but to actually get involved with them and to see how they are looked after, to see how they will survive in the wild when they finally get released and remarkable doesn’t even cover it.”

Paul also features in a festive special of Paul O’Grady: For the Love Dogs at Christmas, again produced by Shiver. In this one-off episode, Paul returns to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to help out with the Christmas preparations and to meet the latest additions to the centre.

Paul O’Grady’s Animal Orphans was commissioned by Jo Clinton-Davis, Controller of Factual. Jo Clinton-Davis said: “Paul’s passion for and connection with animals is palpable. He is the perfect author for this series that will be emotional, entertaining and enlightening in equal measure’
