690 ONLINE SHOPPING WEBSITES BLOCKED
In a joint operation, involving police forces from Belgium, Denmark, USA, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Romania, and the UK, the Civil Guard have blocked 690 web pages (32 linked to Spain), expressly created to defraud consumers making purchases online, by selling them counterfeit goods such as trainers and watches, as well as the illegal distribution of films and the infringement of intellectual property rights.
This investigation is part of ‘la Operación In Our Sites III’ which was coordinated by Europol.
Here in Spain, the Civil Guard has arrested 6 people in the provinces of Alicante, Madrid and Valencia.
Due to the increased consumption of all kinds of products in the run up to Christmas, there are currently an increasing number of criminal organizations flooding the market with counterfeit merchandise, much of which is marketed through Internet.
In addition, many purchasers of such goods also suffer additional fraud with the cloning and further illegal use of their bank account and credit card details.
Following the police operation, users attempting to access the affected web pages will find a notice informing them of the blocked domain, warning them of the fraudulent activities associated with the sites.
