As January sees price increases across most public services and utilities, one element is expected to see a price drop, as the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism looks set to snip about 1% off the price of natural gas.

However, before you start thinking of ways to spend your savings, it should be noted that the price of a bottle of butane will remain at its capped peak price of 17.50 euro. This is thanks to a new mechanism for ceiling the increases, which went up by 2.15% in May after a 5% increase in March. Therefore, the year closes with bottles of gas having risen by 7.2% including Vat and excise duties.

Pricing reviews are carried out on a bimonthly frequency, calculated on the second Tuesday of every odd month, and although many operators would like to see the retail price increased to 20 euro, the promise of the price cap will continue, at least into the first part of 2014.
