Spain assumes presidency of ?5+5 Defence Initiative? for 2014
01/01/2014. 2014 will be the first year that Spain assumes presidency of the ‘5+5 Defence Initiative’. The tenth anniversary of the initiative will also be celebrated this year, which was set up on 21 December 2004 by the Defence Ministers of Algeria, France, Italy, Libya, Malta, Mauritania, Morocco, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia with a view to developing multilateral cooperation between their countries and aimed at fostering security in the Western Mediterranean.
