NEW LONDON CAB TO BE BUILT IN SPAIN

Japanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled its new version of the iconic black cab in London. However, although traditionalists may disapprove of changing the look of the distinctive vehicle, Spain is celebrating the news, as the vehicle will be built in the Nissan factory in the Catalan city of Barcelona.

Based on their NV200 van, already built in Barcelona, it has a 1.6 litre diesel engine and automatic transmission, as well as a closed turning circle to navigate the city streets and Led lighting to illuminate the “Taxi” sign.

Darryl Scriven, spokesperson for the design team, said, “The main challenges were in making sure that customers easily recognized it as a taxi”, continuing, “The mayor’s office and taxi drivers had a lot of interest in ensuring that we maintain the Hackney character”.

A spokesperson for Nissan said that although the vehicle will be built in Barcelona, there will be components added to the taxis in a factory in Britain.
