GASPAR CRASHES INTO FIRE STATION

With extra safety measures in place this year, the parades of the Three Kings across Spain were largely without incident, after the tragedy in Málaga of last year.

However, the scariest moment occurred in Alicante when the driver of a car transporting Gaspar, a black Cadillac convertible, realised that the brakes on the vehicle had failed.

The car was travelling along calle San Vicente, near to the bull ring, when the driver became aware of the problem and took evasive action to try to reduce the risk of serious injury.

The quick thinking driver diverted the vehicle into a controlled crash, which saw the car smashing into the doors of a fire station.

Both the car and door suffered significant damage but there were no injuries in the crash, with both the driver and Agustin Palau, who played the part of Gaspar, continuing the parade, without further incident.
