NEW ABANDONED PATROL CAR FOR CREVILLENT POLICE

The Local Police in Crevillent have been presented with a new patrol car this week, which has been adapted for their use after it was discovered abandoned on one of their roads.

Councillor for the Police and Traffic, Manuel Moya of the ruling Partido Popular, explained during a presentation of the vehicle how it has cost 6,369.46 euro to repair and adapt the vehicle, and emphasised the importance of town halls managing municipal resources with integrity and effectiveness, whilst taking into account the needs of municipal services, especially the local police, during these financially restrictive times.

The SEAT Ibiza is a car, which has number plates indicating May 2006 as its first registration date, required some repairs such as replacing tires and the battery, as well as the installation of emergency lights and siren, flashlights, cones, and other police equipment, as well as the documentary legalization and ITV.

Town halls are allowed to commandeer abandoned vehicles in this way, but only for the purpose of use by law enforcement agencies in their patrols, surveillance and traffic control, as an alternative mechanism to the destruction and decontamination of the vehicle.

A similar situation was brought to light in Orihuela in May of last year, when the previous owner of a Range Rover car spotted his vehicle in Police livery, after that car had been impounded in 2009. Whereas in November of last year, we also reported how Torrevieja town hall had spent nearly three quarters of a million euro on 17 new police vehicles, most of which can still be frequently seen parked idle in the grounds of the police station.
