It was on one of those February days, when starting out in the morning one is unsure whether to put a jumper on or not, a decision to be made as we were attending the RBL Hondon Valley branch walk around Novelda. As it turned out it was a lovely day and we did not know what to do with our coats. In the picture are three of the fifteen members who took part, they are taking a rest on a one hundred and fifteen year old settle in the ‘Casa Museo.’

Tony with his wife Margaret who is sitting next to him, moved to Hondon Valley nine years ago and are strong supporters of the branch, and from time to time they have been known to perform comedy acts at a professional level, entertaining the members and visitors at branch meetings. Tony tells me they lived in Somerset for about thirty years and has performed at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil, with vivid memories, especially when he played the magistrate in ‘Lock up your Daughters,’ although he adds comedy is his real thing. The lady sitting to the right is Jean, the Treasurer for Rbl District North Spain who is responsible for collating the financial information from the eighteen branches for London H.Q. A superb day with a gentle walk seeing the treasures of the old town – it was well organised by Wendy, with a delicious Spanish meal included at a local Restaurant all for 8.00€ a head.

The branch social gathering in March is on the fifth and is a quality lunch in an Aspe restaurant. April is fun time with a coach trip to Oliva for an afternoon meal and Flamenco dancing at the famous Viva Espana. There are still some seats left and all are welcome, there is no need to be a member. For further information of activities please telephone the number below. The monthly meeting of Hondon Valley Rbl took place at Monte Alto, Restaurant in Nieves. Another nice friendly regular get together held on the third Tuesday of the month, and of course Yola and Patricia were there with the book stall. As I mentioned last month they have an availability of four thousand books – no they do not bring them all – they have divided them into eight individual sections and at each meeting they bring one segment, which means over an eight week period, there is a fresh selection of novels to choose from. The formal part of the evening started at seven thirty sharp it was good news this month as there were no terrible casualties to our forces. After which the monthly reports from the Secretary and Treasurer. Followed by a short break to refresh glasses, and then Tony, one of the stalwarts of the branch, started the evening in grand style introducing his new game of Play Your Cards Right, not quite up to Bruce’s standard but a good laugh, a little bit of light tension and enjoyed by all, with the winners receiving prizes. This was followed by a brain-buster quiz of Flags of the World which was won by team Richard (de st Croix), Patricia and Steve (Rooke). To round off the evening twenty questions with cryptic clues to guess television shows. Next month after the evenings formal part a quick fire auction for the Poppy Appeal with lots of free entries. Come and join us and partake in the fun – all for a very good course.
