The Prosecutor has asked for a sentence of 38 months in prison for the former mayor of Elche, Alejandro Soler, following his appearance in court last week charged with two offenses of abuse and threats to his ex-wife.
His trial, which lasted for over 3 hours, was held at the Criminal Court No. 1 in Elche
The defense had asked for his acquittal maintaining his innocence and claiming that he is the victim of false allegations.
Soler was accompanied to the trial by several former socialist councillors, including spokesman Antonio Rodes, whose evidence was rejected by the judge.
The former Elche mayor and current councillor, PSPV-PSOE, has denied physically assaulting his ex-wife and has stated that the allegations were nothing more than her attempts at revenge.
Two weeks ago, on 9 February, Soler’s ex-wife, Manuela Gonzálvez, reported her former husband for assault, stating that she had been pushed to the ground causing various injuries to her elbow and her spine, following an argument over maintenance payments.
Soler argued in court that there was no aggression
