Here on the Costa’s golf is one of the biggest leisure time activities for both tourists and resident alike and with this in mind we have secured the services of Mike Probert of Costa Blanca Green Fee Services to provide a weekly round up of local golfing events and topics and in conjunction with us at THE LEADER will provide discounted golf prices to all of our readers and run our golf competitions.

Which is the best maintained golf course on the Costa Blanca?

Having lived in Spain for 10 years I feel qualified to comment on the condition of the courses here on the Costa Blanca, I get fed up with people trying to compare our courses with those on the Costa Del Sol (many of which are vastly over priced) or those in places like Turkey (which excellent but cost a small fortune to reach by aeroplane).

I totally agree with many ex-pat golfers that the cost of membership here is too expensive when compared to available disposable pension income and UK prices. The overall green fees prices compare more than favourably with other Costa areas even though the high season prices in March, April, October and November make us ex-pats ‘wince’ somewhat. This then leads us on to the condition of courses here on the Costa Blanca.

Most courses in this area are sown with Bermuda grass on fairways and rough which goes ‘dormant’ during the winter months giving a yellow/brown un-kempt type of look BUT this is natural and as soon as average night time temperatures increase a few degrees they turn green over night. Also unlike the UK which has a ready supply of surplus ‘natural’ rain water the courses here have to purchase vast volumes of water to keep the courses looking good all year around BUT this is at a typical cost of circa €250K per annum.

So we have taken all the above into consideration and I guess we all have a view of what makes a course to be in good condition and also which is the best course in the area. With excellent courses like Las Colinas, La Finca, Lo Romero and Font del Llop we have much to be happy about BUT which is the best course based on playing conditions over a year?

For your information VISTABELLA has been catalogued by the local press as the best maintained local course with the best greens over the whole year. Now I am sure that you will all have your opinion on this subject but just for once it is nice to be talking about local courses in a positive light.

We at THE LEADER are committed to providing to our golfing readers affordable golf without the need to join a club or apply for a card but simply contact the number below to have instant access to discounted golf prices, many of which are exclusive to us.
