The high speed train network between Alicante and Madrid, has begun an expansion into some of the coastal towns, with the launch of combined bus and train tickets to travel from various locations now available on the website,

Passengers wishing to travel from the towns of El Altet, Arenales del Sol and Santa Pola can now book their combined tickets for the bus link to the high speed AVE network, which looks likely to prove even popular than the service is already, with the train already damaging flight passenger numbers as more and more people choose to travel by land.

The service is also available at other destinations throughout the country, including Castilla y León, Cantabria, Asturias and Galicia, and a similar service has already been running from Dénia and Jávea to connect with the service in Valencia.

In January of this year, the mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, announced that a combined ticket would soon be available from Torrevieja to the high speed train network, which he had hoped would be launched “within a few days”, which he had hoped would coincide with the Madrid International Tourism Fair (Fitur). According to a spokesperson at RENFE, during the launch of the Santa Pola service, “nothing is yet sure” about the Torrevieja link.

Similarly, a connection from Benidorm was hoped to be launched at the same time, with Renfe saying that there is a strong case for this, but only informal discussions have taken place.
