A 55 year old Dutch man was arrested in Benitachell last weekend after agents from the Guardia Civil discovered 355 marijuana plants in his home. The police said that the plants were in various stages of growth.
The detainee is charged with crimes against public health and electricity fraud of electricity and in addition to the seizure of the 355 marijuana plants agents also discovered five kilos of the drug which was ready to be sold .
The police say that they received a call from a member of the public about the possible existence of a marijuana plantation in the village. As such they carried out surveillance on a number of possible locations, which were rewarded last Saturday March 15 when a man carrying 146 marijuana plants on his moped, was stopped.
In the subsequent search of his home, just a few meters from the place of arrest , the Guardia discovered a plantation with all kinds of irrigation systems to support the growth of the drug. There were also chemicals for its cultivation and a drying area for the plants and their subsequent storage.
