RETURN TO PASSENGER USE FOR OLD TERMINAL BUILDING RULES OUT

Listen to this article

Spanish airport authority Aena has completely ruled out the reopening of the old terminal at Alicante-Elche airport for passenger or freight traffic, but has stated an interest in studying commercial projects “that are firm and viable”.

According to Aena, since the new terminal building can adequately address both current and future estimates of air traffic, there is no economic viability in reusing the old terminal building, as this would duplicate operational, maintenance and staffing costs.

Proposals to convert the building into a shopping centre came to light early last year, now with this announcement, if could pave the way for conversion into a retail or leisure hub.
