A resident of the Jávea Park urbanisation of the town with the same name, made a gruesome discovery on Monday morning when he found the body of a man, wearing only his underpants, in the lift of the residential building.

The position of the body was resting lay on the floor, his legs up against the wall, in a position described as “impossible”, apparently with blood in his mouth, but showing no immediate signs of violence. The residents who made the discovery rushed down the stairs and alerted the concierge, who in turn contacted the Guardia Civil.

The man was later identified as being of 49 years of age and a resident of Javéa, who died following a cardiac arrest, according to the autopsy. The blood in his mouth collecting after he apparently bit his tongue during the seizure.

The investigation now leads officers to check the attendees and staff of a nightclub next door to the residential building, with the main hypothesis being that witnesses of his death became scared and tried to hide the body.

Officers found the man´s clothing, shoes and wallet on the street outside. The area, which is very popular with British residents and visitors, is said to take on a different characteristic between day and night, with cafe culture being replaced with one of hostess driven nightlife, which has previously raised concerns over prostitution.
