BODY ON BEACH IDENTIFIED AS MISSING LIVERPOOL MAN

The bagged and bound body washed up on an Orihuela beach has been confirmed as missing Liverpool man, Francis Brennan, who was involved in a fake arrest when his vehicle was stopped by a gang pretending to be police officers, in January.

The body was discovered on the 29th of March, washed up on Cala Bosque at La Zenia, wrapped in an industrial sack which was sealed in plastic, with initial reports suggesting that it had met a violent end having suffered blows to the shoulders, back and the head, thought quite probably the cause of death.

Brennan, aged 25, fled to Spain having been found guilty and awaiting sentence over a wounding charge at a Swedish House Mafia music concert in Milton Keynes, in July of last year. He is believed to have travelled to the Costa Blanca before Christmas, with his girlfriend, Sophie, ignoring the advice of his parents to stay in the UK for the court proceedings. It is understood Brennan knew people in Javea having previously been on a stag do there.

At the time of his abduction, Brennan is believed to have been driving away from a gym with a friend when his car was stopped. Three men wearing baseball caps, described as “similar to those worn by the Guardia Civil”, then forced Brennan out of the car and took him away.

Merseyside Police launched an appeal for information shortly after the disappearance on January th 24th. DS Carr from Merseyside police said that “A number of people posing as police officers from the Guardia Civil handcuffed and took him away”. They also suspected the Anfield man’s own involvement in crime may have been behind his disappearance.

Merseyside Police have said that the Spanish authorities are leading the investigation into his apparent murder and that support was being offered to the Brennan family.

Brennan had previously been convicted of affray at the age of 19, involved with gang trouble outside the home of Jim Barrett, described as a “loved granddad”, who died of a heart attack.

His parents had said that he had “tried to turn a corner” upon his release from a young offender´s institute, but losing his job as the age of 21 had forced him to reoffend.
