Phase 2 of the special road operation connected with the Easter holidays is set to begin at lunchtime on Wednesday, when more inland based drivers are set to head towards the coastal zone for the Easter break.

Phase 2 is often considered one of the most important by the traffic department, as an increased flow of traffic mixes with those who have already arrived on the coast.

As with other stages of road traffic management, major road works are suspended, the transport of dangerous goods is banned, and the traffic police are out in force to try to ease the flow.

On Wednesday and Thursday, the main flow of traffic will be heading towards tourist areas of the coast, second home locations, areas of touristic interest and for winter sports locations such as mountains, as well as areas popular with the traditional religious acts of Easter.

The roads in these areas will be particularly busy during the entire holiday period, with stage3 being “the return”, when those visitors to the coast return home to inland areas, which is expected to see a large movement on Sunday the 20th and Monday the 21st of April.

The advice offered by the traffic department is to avoid the busiest times, allow extra time for any journey, and to ensure compliance with the rules and laws.
