FIRE FIGHTERS BATTLE BLUE LAGOON BLAZE

Fire fighters battled a potentially dangerous forest fire in the Blue Lagoon and El Mirador area of the Torrevieja and Orihuela coastline on Wednesday evening.

At around 18:00, 3 fire engines, a helicopter, specialist forest fire fighters and a water plane were all helping to control the situation.

The Valencia region has been on alert for the risk of forest fires for a couple of weeks, with the hot dry weather and winds increasing the risks.

A number of serious fires have already devastated parts of Spain this year, with the authorities pleading for extra vigilance by everybody to try to minimise the risk.
