Pedro Mancebo and Juan Ignacio López-Bas

In this week´s plenary meeting at Orihuela town hall, the Mayor of the municipality, Monseratte Guillén, once again refused to allow two councillors to table motions on behalf of the CLR-CLARO group, on account of them having been expelled from that coalition.

However, coincidental to the timing of the plenary meeting, the judge provisionally suspended the expulsion of Pedro Mancebo and Juan Ignacio López-Bas, this theoretically returning them to their previous positions within the political group they have maintained representation of.

The significance of returning them to the group is that it would pave the way once more for the tabling of a censure motion, which could, in turn, overthrow the mayor and return the Partido Popular to power for the remainder of this administrative term.

In the notes from the court, the judge appears to support the argument that the two councillors have maintained, the claim that the requirements of their expulsion were not met. As the last attempted censure motion was prevented on account of them having been expelled, the suspension may now open the door for the motion to be tabled once again.
