Former WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Gabriel Campillo (22,6,1, 9ko’s) moves up to Cruiserweight when he returns to action against Torrevieja’s Ricky Pow (11,2,1) in a non title fight in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria on 9 May in an event promoted by MaravillaBox.

Madrid’s Campillo is currently sparring in Chicago with former opponent Andrzez Fonfara while Pow, who has recently split from long time manager and coach Alberto Gonzalez, has followed his good friend Kiko Martinez, and current IBF Super Bantamweight World Champion, to his new training camp in Elche.

Meanwhile Pow has taken the Campillo fight instead of an opportunity of fighting for the IBO Latino light-heavyweight title on Keith Mayo’s big summer triple title show at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon next month.

That fight has been put on hold until the outcome of his bout with former WBA world champion Campillo is known.

Mayo said: “Ricky is still up for fighting on my show in June, but we just have to see how this fight goes.”
“It would be a huge scalp for Ricky if he can beat Campillo and I’m hoping that I can get over to Gran Canaria to see it.

Campillo, who won his title in 4 years ago with a majority decision over Beibut Shumenov, will be looking to use this fight to get his career back on track after he suffered a ninth round knock out by Andrzej Fonfara, who will now face Adonis Stevenson next month for the WBC crown, in Chicago back in August.

Campillo was originally due to fight Ibrahim Lopez who pulled out of the fight following his surprise defeat against Morocco’s Mustafa Chadlioui.

In the main event Ceferino Rodriguez (15,0) defends the EU Welterweight title against Ismael El Massoudi (39,7) who held the WBA Interim Title for almost a year.
