TWO MILLION EURO IN UNPAID TAXES FOR IKER CASILLAS

A spokesman for the Hacienda did say, however that there would appear to have been no intention of evading the tax obligations

According to ‘La Vanguardia’ newspaper last week, the Real Madrid and Spanish National goalkeeper Iker Casillas has had to pay around two million euros to the Hacienda in unpaid taxes after being accused by the authorities of tax avoidance.

The amount paid by the keeper responds to differences in how he was applying the rules regarding certain parts of his income, the newspaper said, adding that sources close to the players representatives say that “both he personally and his company, Ikerka, have always been absolutely aware of their fiscal accounts and tax obligations and have constantly worked with Hacienda to ensure their declarations are accurate and submitted on time.

There have simply been some minor differences in the interpretation of the rules which have now been resolved.

At least seven La Liga players are currently being inspected for alleged non compliance in their tax obligations, the most high profile of which, Lionel Messi, the former ‘World Footballer of the Year’ recently made a payment of €5 million to cover monies owed during the period of investigation.

The Spanish Court is still waiting to pass its verdict regarding their conclusions in that particular case.

Other players caught up in the Hacienda investigations are said to include Xabi Alonso and David Villa.
