A total of 20 waste household cooking oil containers were placed across Torrevieja last Friday in different parts of the municipality of Torrevieja, a number that will be increased to 40 during the months of July and August
The Councillor for Urban Sanitation, Carmen Gómez Candel, announced details and the locations of the new containers at a press conference held in the town hall, together the President of the Foundation SEGOLEO.
Initially, 20 containers have been positioned around Torrevieja, increasing to 40 for the months of July and August.
The Councillor said that there were many benefits to be had from the recycling of the waste cooking oils including a reduction in the cost of purging water and the maintenance of sewerage pipes.
There would also be a reduction in odours and unhealthy organisms around the town bearing in mind the fact that a single litre of oil pollutes 1000 litres of water.
A recycling team will attend the Torrevieja Friday market later this week and the La Mata market on the following Wednesday to hand out leaflets and explain to residents the benefits in using the containers to dispose of their waste oils.
They will also distribute the plastic bottles in which the oils must be placed before their disposal.
