An officer from the National Police, reported injured in an incident in Málaga on Wednesday, has died as a result of the incident..
The emergency coordination centre reports that they received calls for assistance to an incident on calle Frigiliana at around 7 in the evening.
There were confused reports from the scene that the officer may have been stabbed, after which gun shots were heard, with witnesses reporting hearing five shots. The officer was accompanied by a colleague at the time of the incident.
The 33 year old officer was transferred to the hospital Carlos Haya, to later die as a result of stabbing injuries incurred in the incident.
The alleged perpetrator of the stabbing was also admitted to hospital, suffering gunshot wounds to the shoulder. It is believed that the man was shot by the second police officer in order to protect the safety of those under attack.
A woman is also reported to have been injured, a suspected victim of shrapnel after the incident. Numerous other patrols attended the scene to assist.
The deceased officer was identified as Francisco Díaz Jiménez.
