A £1.5million cruiseliner destined for Spanish waters remains in Britain – SIX years after being torched by an arsonist. This week I visited the scene of where the cruiseliner Ocean Quest remains – in the shallow muddy waters on the edge of Preston Marina in Lancashire.

It was back in November 2007 when the Ocean Quest was scheduled for its maiden voyage to Alicante – where it was going to be moored and used as a Charter boat. However, The Ocean Quest – a 73ft vessel – was sank in June 2008 at Preston Marina – as reported in The Leader – where it has remained ever since.

The Ocean Quest was a piece of Preston history when unveiled in 2007 as the first boat to be built in Preston in 50 years. It was to be used by its consortium owners – for cruises in the Mediterranean – after four-and-a-half years’ work to complete the cruiseliner.

Lancashire businessman Graham Alston and his brother Peter, who lives in Spain, were main owners of The Ocean Quest. I was told by Chris Miller, Preston Dock Managing Director that the Ocean Quest was sold on ebay for a paltry sum – believed to be £15,000.

Despite works being undertaken in recent years it still remains near to the entrance of Preston Marina, near to the mouth of the River Ribble, sitting in muddy waters at low tide.
