After months of discussion, disagreement and controversy, the train station at Alicante now has a direct bus link which will allow passengers arriving by train, including those on the high speed services, to link directly with connecting buses for the entire Costa Blanca area.
However, despite promises of a direct bus link to places like Torrevieja and Benidorm, a factor which caused major objections from taxi drivers on account of it causing extra congestion on the roads, the compromise service which has been put in place is a 15 minute shuttle which connects the train station with the bus station in Alicante, where forward connections can be made.
This is the solution which had been proposed by the mayor of the city, Sonia Castedo, aimed at satisfying the complaints from taxi drivers, whilst providing a service to the passengers. The move saves the passengers from walking the 1 kilometre distance between the two points, or walking to the regular service bus stops, some two hundred or so metres away from the station.
