DEMANDS FOR URGENT SPLIT OF THE N-332 AT TORREVIEJA
The UPyD political group in Torrevieja are demanding urgent action be carried on the N-332 main road as it passes Torrevieja, the only remaining bottleneck on a road that has undergone improvements for the last decade as the entire area grew.
Although calls have been made for some time to widen the road, the latest campaign is for a central reservation to be installed in order to separate traffic. Although it could be argued that a number of recent head on crashes could not have been avoided, what is sure is that the impact of the head-on collisions during two incidents would have been less serious, even resulting in the preservation of life, should crash barriers have been installed separating the flows of traffic.
Apart from being the only stretch of road that runs in one lane in each direction, at one of the busiest stretches of road, it is also one of the few areas where the traffic is not separated.
The coordinator for the UPyD, José Serna, is now asking the question, “Again the citizens suffer the consequences of electioneering and partisan interests of the PP-PSOE, what action is the Mayor, Eduardo Dolón (PP), taking to solve this problem that costs lives? Is there any real project or budget from the central or regional government? Is there a firm commitment and lead time?”
From the UPyD point of view, after so many years of enduring this situation, “the highest priority must be given to request the corresponding governing bodies split the ring-road of Torrevieja in coordination with the needs of local and regional existing and future traffic, we consider additional infrastructure such as bike lanes, pedestrian crossings, etc.., with utmost urgency”, thus correcting the shortfall that the roads and transport network of the 5th city of Valencia suffers.
