King Felipe VI of Spain makes his first official state visit on Monday, when he travels to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis, along with Queen Letizia.

Former King, Juan Carlos, met with Pope Francis only a short time ago during the canonization of popes John Paul II and John XXIII. This visit is expected to show a continual bond between the Spanish royal family and the church.

Next week, the Royal couple will visit Portugal, following an invitation by President Aníbal Cavaco Silva, and the following week, the pair will visit Morocco for the first time as Monarchs.
