Unions and management reached agreement last week enabling them to call of the 3 day strike by footwear workers scheduled for the 24, 25 and 31 July. The collective agreement was ratified in Madrid.
Details of the settlement were given in a press release issued jointly by the Federation of Footwear Industries (FICE) and the Spanish Association of Footwear Components (AEC). The two parties said that their last meeting held with the two unions, UGT and CCOO, ended in harmony.
Both parties say that they have agreed to maintain the wage revision clause in the 2014/15 agreement with the commitment that further negotiations will take place at the beginning of 2016. They said that these must take into account the country’s economic situation.
However, despite the agreement to call of the strike the two groups say that they are still a long way apart and that there are still substantial differences between what the employers are offering and what the two unions will accept.
As such both parties have agreed to submit their cases to the Arbitration service.
