HOUSEBREAKINGS IN ORIHUELA COSTA

On the Orihuela Costa and Entre Naranjas in the Neighbourhood Watch we have groups representing 133 residencias.

We record our own numbers of crimes committed which on our residencias are normally very low. However, during the summer months of 2013, May to October, we recorded a total of 70 houses that that been entered.

This number since the house building boom days before 2009 is abnormal and the vast majority were committed during the hours of 4 a.m. and 7 a.m. by thieves finding open or partially open windows and by using a rod with a net attached removed property from within. The numbers returned to a normal low after these months.

So far this year we are again seeing this type of crime occurring in our area and no doubt in other areas on the Costa Blanca.

In an attempt to make residents and visitors aware could you please remind them of this activity and not to leave vulnerable windows open or partially open especially during the night. Also please do not leave articles in view from outside particularly hand bags and keys. By taking these simple precautions the thieves may be prevented from spoiling things especially if you are on holiday here.

Should anyone hear or see anything suspicious call the Police immediately. Even it it turns out to be a false alarm as in the eyes of the Police, it doesn´t matter providing that the call is not made with malicious intent. This can be done by ringing 112 where operators speak in Spanish, English, German or Scandinavian.
