DAVID MAIQUES WINS TORREVIEJA’S GRAFFITI CONTEST

David received a first prize of 1500 euro

After a full day of activities at el Parque de la Estación the 1st Torrevieja Graffiti competition was won by Valencia’s David Maiques Paredes. David picked up a prize of 1500 euros from the mayor Eduardo Dolon. His work ‘For You’ was depicted on a Glass Bottle Container.

The second prize of 1000 euros, was awarded to Felipe Garcia Pagán from Cartagena with the work “Relicorsarios”. Third, and a cheque for 500 euros, was awarded to José García Terol Santiago and Jorge Ortuño, both from Murcia. There were five further prizes, each of 100 euros, awarded by the judging panel as well as a special prize to the Best Local Artist which went to Juan de Dios Crespo with his work “My home in a bottle.”

This first edition of the competition was organized with the aim of promoting glass recycling containers in the area whilst at the same time, recognising graffiti as a medium of expression for young people with regard to their vision of society.

In total there were sixty-three entries into the competition, the final twenty of which were displayed in the park.

All day el Parque de la Estación hosted a party where young people were entertained by Rap and Rock, which alternated with activities for the even younger such as face painting, balloon twisting and children’s games.

There were a number of recycling displays provided by “Ecovidrio” an association of nonprofit recycling glass containers throughout Spain.

Meanwhile Councillor Carmen Gómez said that twenty selected works of the finalists, will be subject displayed in several areas around the town.
