MILLION EURO INVESTMENT IN VEGA BAJA HOSPITAL

The Vega Baja hospital has announced a million euro investment into the expansion of their Emergency Department and with the specification now with contractors it is hoped that the bidding process will be complete and the contract awarded by late October.

The plan will see an extension of 269.4 square meters in emergency department, and 76.48 square meters in Rehabilitation. The total area to be remodeled will be 483.5 square meters.

The expansion is part of an improvement plan undertaken by the manager of the Orihuela Department of Health, Emilio Bascuñana.

Bascuñana said that the project will better equip the center and provide improved care for patients who come to the department.

Bascuñana first announced the project in June following the hospital visit of the Director General of Health Care in Valencia, Sofía Clar, who said that the plan to modernize the Emergency Department “is vital to the people of Orihuela if the hospital is to continue giving the appropriate care to patients,” in that the bulk of the cases fall to the ER service, approximately 80%.

The manager and said that there will also be improvements to the operating theatres, to the areas accommodating patients who are awaiting and undergoing surgery and to Intensive Care.

Sofía Clar said during her visit that “this type of investment in new and more modern equipment is absolutely necessary in that it is designed to assist and improve the work of health professionals in order to provide the best quality care.”

The hospital has also acquired fifty new beds although the intention is to renew all 320 throughout the entire hospital in the coming months. ‘Beds improve comfort and patient independence’ said Bascuñana. ‘ Patients spend the vast majority of their time in these beds so a comfortable bed is an absolute necessity as part of their wellbeing and recovery.’
