Greenlands Open Trips. The Open Trips ran from Monday 1st till Wed 3rd and proved to be an outstanding success due mainly to the organisational skill of Barry Collins and very skilful and competitive participants from a wide variety of clubs throughout the region.

Each of the matches was played over 10 ends

The upshot of all this very convivial but earnest bowling was the semi-finals on Wednesday morning with the following teams in contention: Vista Bella; Tony French, ‘Lucky’ Les Barber & Skip Mike Regan against Greenlands: Jan Pocock, Brian Pocock & Skip Brian Miller. The result was a win for Vista Bella by 12 shots to 7.

The other Semi was San Luis: Trevor Vanner, Scott Malden & Skip David Blackie against Mazzaron: Julie Cooper, Nina McKenzie & Skip Richard Cooper. Julie Cooper had to be substituted on finals day by Beryl Regan (Bella Vista) due to an unfortunate injury sustained by Julie the evening before. The result was a win for the modified Mazzaron team by 9 shots to 8.

Now you have all worked out who was in the Final which started promptly at Half past Two.

The Final proved to be worthy of the title and all the effort and skill displayed by all the contestants. The score is not important but the winners, by a handsome margin, was the Vista Bella team of; TONY FRENCH, ‘LUCKY’ LES BARBER & SKIP MIKE REGAN. Prizes to all the Finalist and Semi Finalists were donated by our very generous Sponsors, ‘John O’Brien representing ‘Winning Express’ and the Law firm, Pellicer & Heredia, and both Ignacio & Pedro were in attendance to make the presentations.

The success of our Open was of course a ‘team’ effort and Barry and our President, Steve Westall, would like to thank, in no particular order; Jean Cooper & Sue Johnson for Umpiring the matches: Jill Collins for the fantastic raffle and Hayley for keeping up with the constant demand for cold drinks and a variety of hot and cold snacks. Well done everyone.

The Saturday Roll-up.

There was a three way tie for first place this week namely David Thomson, Jim Oliver and Joan Oliver, the result was determied by a countback with the outcome as already shown, fourth place was awarded to Michael Keating and the Wonderful Wooden Spoon this week was won by Kym Hunter. Turnout was an average 16 but the forecast is looking brighter for the coming cooler weather.

Thursday Nite Friendly.

An away day for Greenlands in the penultimate match and the Crushers were in fine form on their home turf. However, they were gentle with us, only taking 12 of the 14 points on offer; 5 rinks and shot advantage, 116 to our creditable 98. Our aces were Sheila Hewett who was injured before the match started and was substituted by mutual agreement by a Quesada sub. Tanya Oliver as lead, Phil(the voice)Lockley and Skip Averil Toozer. Good for them all, since they contributed massively to our score of 98 shots.

Greenlands Membership.

The new season is about to start but there is still time for those of you looking to change clubs or newly arrived in the area to join probably ‘the friendliest club on the Costa’. Contact either Hayley on 966844399 or Allen Brown on 637344221 who would be delighted to give you all the details.
