CD TORREVIEJA – 1 MURO CF – 1

Croatian whizz kid Brani struck a sublime first half volleyed goal, giving credence to his fast growing reputation of a young player with mega potential.

Having made substitute appearances in the first 2 league matches, Torry manager Galiana elected to give him his first start, in a line up that included 3 changes from the trip to Utiel. Also starting were full back Berna, making his debut, and Burguillos, replacing Cesar and the injured pair of Eddy and Rafa Gomez.

Disaster struck from Muro’s first attack after only 90 seconds. A careless back pass was seized on by Lucas, who had time to shoot past a helpless Oscar, leaving the home side with it all to do. It didn’t take long for Vicente to strike a beauty from long range, then from the resultant corner Alexis hit his effort into the side netting.

Cristian Sanchez appeared to be in the middle of a Muro sandwich inside their penalty area, but ref Hernandez was having none of it. On 33 mins, Sergi struck a fierce free kick narrowly wide, before Cristian provided an inch perfect cross for Brani to convert with total perfection.

Twas one way traffic during the last 10 mins of the 1st half, as Torry came close to increasing their lead on no less than 3 occasions. Alexis saw his firm header well saved, then Brani should have doubled his goal tally, but squandered a great opportunity, prior to Vicente heading just over.

Oscar was called into action soon after resumption of play, diving low at his near post to catch a testing free kick, as the visitors showed their intentions.

They also stepped up the physical side of their game, as Cristian S bore the brunt of many cynical fouls, which rightly earned the culprits 3 yellow cards. Torry rode the storm, then on the hour mark a powerful Sergi header was plucked to safety. Ref Hernandez, in true Spanish fashion, saw fit to book Carrasco, and subs Cesar and Martin (who was very lucky not to pick up a second), as the game lost it’s way a bit.

Front man Lucas fluffed a glorious opportunity, missing the target with Oscar out of position, then up the other end, Jorge twice sent headers wide of the mark. With 2 mins of normal time remaining, Tasio let Torry off the hook, blasting an excellent chance sky high. In stoppage time, Jordi put in a teasing cross, which eluded everyone before going out for a goal kick.

Torry have another home league match at Vicente Garcia Stadium, on Sun 14 Sep, against Torre Levante. Please check club and Torry Army websites for ko time.
