RIBARROJA CF ……..2 CD TORREVIEJA ……1 On Sunday evening, Torry made the long trip north to the city of Valencia, playing Ribarroja inside their not very imaginative 4,000 capacity Municipal de Ribarroja Stadium.

This corresponding fixture last season ended with a narrow 1-0 victory to the hosts. Ribarroja have started this Div 3 campaign with 2 draws and a defeat, whilst Torry remain unbeaten, boasting a victory and 2 draws.

Team news and Rafa still injured but Steve Ekedi was back in the line-up following his spent suspension. Unfortunately for Edeki however, despite opening the scoring for Torry in the 12th minute, it was a game that he would rather forget as, for the 2nd consecutive occasion, he was dismissed for two yellow cards. Although he does deserve some sympathy at an absolutely awful refereeing decision he is experience to know that even the most innocuous of challenges are often punished and this was very much the case once again at Ribarroja.

Until the send off the visitors had completely dominated proceedings but once reduced to ten men the home side quickly got on top. Two goals in as many minutes, a 20 yd drive from Fran and a superb Raul header, saw them in front by 2-1 as the players left the field for the half time interval.

Things didn’t improve after the restart although Torry worked hard to get themselves back into the game, but then another moment of foolishness, on 64 minutes when Jorge kicked out at an opponent, and the visitors were reduced to nine.

But despite Torrevieja’s inferior number you certainly couldn’t knock the side, as their spirit and determination for the remainder of the game almost won them a point and, in truth, the nine men who played so magnificently, keeping the home side on the back foot for the whole of the final quarter, richly deserved the ovation of the fans as they left the field.

Next Sunday Torry are at home to Torre Levante kicking off at 6.30pm
