TOASTMASTERS CLUB MEETING

On Saturday 6th September, Las Palmeras Club had its first meeting of the season, after the summer break. The elected team of club officers started a new year with renewed strength and willingness to push and promote the Club forward after an already successful last year.

We have been recognised by the headquarters at Toastmasters International, in the USA with a ribbon of Distinction.

We followed a standard structure for the meeting. The first part was the Table Topics, led by Carolyn Harris, who proposed different topics to the impromptu speakers. The Poem of the Day (The Reckoning, by Robert W. Service) was read by Jim Finnegan.

The prepared speeches were given by Santiago Callaba (CC3), Georgia Varjas (AC) and David McLachlan (AC). All the activities were thoroughly evaluated by different members of the club, thus making an enjoyable learning experience.

A very big THANK YOU goes to our guests in this meeting: Geraldine, Fernando, Mariano, Ronen, Javier and Israel, who were so brave to participate in the Table Topics session.

The next meeting on 20 September will be a special one, since it will host our annual Humorous Speech Contest. This is the once-a-year opportunity to see the best speakers of the club competing with humorous speeches for a position to represent the club in the Area-level contest which happens two weeks later. An event not to be missed.

For those Guests which are not familiar with the Toastmasters International experience, it should be highlighted that the access to the meetings is for free. The organization is non-profit, and depends only on the personal implication and proactivity of the members. There is a very VERY small fee which is needed to pay for the meeting place, paperwork, etc.
