GUARDAMAR GRAVEDIGGER POSES WITH CORPSE
A Guardamar gravedigger has been suspended after he took a photograph of himself with a 23 year old decomposing corpse. Celestino Reyna was pictured with the body alongside the man’s nephew while the dead man’s neice took the photo.
He then decided to share the photo with friends and colleagues on Whatsapp. What he didn’t expect was the image and the story to go viral. As a result the 55 year old gravedigger was suspended from his role and moved to another council position, while an investigation is carried out.
The body was originally removed from the crypt so that his recently deceased wife could be added to the family tomb
The neice who took the photo said she didn’t want to be disrespectful to her uncle but only wanted to show the effects of decomposition to her sister.
Local councillor Felipe Aldeguer defended Reyna, saying that he did not act in “bad faith” and in all probability would keep his council job.
