The Mayor of Orihuela, Monserrate Guillén of the Los Verdes green party, is not likely to return to work until at least the end of October, if he agrees to adhere to the medical advice.
Having suffered a heart attack in July, Guillén undertook surgery to repair his heart and was expected to be off work for two months. His latest medical check up has recommended a longer period of rehabilitation, which would add another 4 weeks to his recovery period, resulting in his return in late October.
Whilst sources close to Guillén say that he is keen to return to work, he has also been taking some time out to enjoy some of the more scenic areas of the municipality during his rest and recuperation.
In his absence, the current acting mayor, Antonio Zapata of the PSOE, will continue to lead the government team.
