Following established protocols for dealing with potential risk, the red warning flag which advises against bathing in the sea has been raised on the Orihuela Costa beaches of Mil Palmeras, Barranco Rubio, Aguamarina and Campoamor.
The reason for the move is the appearance of apparent pollution on the beaches, which is believed to have been caused by the naval ships carrying out exercises off the coast of Orihuela.
The red flag measure has been taken as a precautionary measure whilst the environmental arm of the Guardia Civil, SEPRONA, carry out tests.
It is advised that during this time beach goers do not enter the water until the status of the flag has been changed back to green.
