A specialist company that deals with rock and Cliff face retention has visited the Orihuela Costa this week, with a view to firming up the potentially dangerous, though natural Cliff face at Cala Capitan. A number of large rocks had fallen onto the pathway below recently, prompting the town hall to close action. The company involved, GroGroup, had carried out a survey some years ago and so will now be able to refresh their information and create a safe area through a series of secure points and wire netting, allowing for the natural erosion to continue, but without risk to those passing by below, or the surrounding properties.

The urban planning department has received notice that their application to construct a new roundabout on the N-332, near to the Carrefour supermarket, has been rejected for the third time. It was hoped that by creating a new, alternative route from the main coastal road towards the Zenia Boulevard shopping centre would alleviate some of the traffic flow problems, but the only explanation given by the ministry is that they had already said no on 2 previous occasions, in February and July.

A demonstration is planned for Saturday the 27th of September, outside the post office on the Orihuela Costa. The aim is to raise awareness of the plight of a number of residents who no longer receive their post at their home and have to collect it from the post office. Seen by many as a precursor to privatisation of the national system, the court rejected a recent application to cease the planned denial of service, as there were similar cases already having been rejected in other areas. It is hoped that the protest will raise the issue that residents themselves are demanding the change. Meanwhile, the Councillor for the coast, Martina Scheurer of the Los Verdes, is planning to arrange meetings with a number of affected neighbourhood associations to see if a solution can be found should the move continue, such as the creation of communal post boxes.

The reading point in the Orihuela Costa civic centre has reopened for the winter season, and is available on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 1pm until 5pm. However, the facility is in desperate need of volunteers, after some of those who had been helping out before the summer have been unable to return. More information can be obtained from the reading point, or from the international residents office at the town hall.

Now that the summer restrictions on repair and maintenance work have been lifted, the town hall will soon be able to commence the much needed repairs to the walkway at Aguamarina. With all permissions in place and the money already allocated, the start of the work is now immanent.
