ONE of Spain’s leading horse breeders and showmen Juan Cortes is back at work in Dolores after spending the night in hospital – hours after performing in Torremendo.

“When we got home after the Horse and Flamenco Show in Torremendo he rushed off to the doctor – and they sent him to A&E,” said Emma Tytherleigh. British born Emma, who directs and performs alongside Cortes in the Horse and Flamenco Show spectacular, said: “Juan’s fine now.” Diabetic Cortes is one of Spain’s leading horsemen, and an International Dressage rider and breeder, based in Dolores.

Cortes was taking pain killers to ease pain ahead of the show: “Juan had a lot of fluid on his elbow and it got worse as the night went on, that lead to going to hospital,” said Emma. Gypsy Cortes, a former rider of the Royal Andalusian School of Jerez, was kept in hospital under observation overnight.

Cortes who is a leading world figure in Classical Dressage, bred Spanish Dressage Gold Medalists Juan Matute and Carlos Torrel. Born and raised in Cordoba, Cortes, who owns a Stud Farm in Dolores, Alicante, specialises in breeding rare coloured Spanish horses.

Cortes is at the forefront of breeding the World’s best most wanted Black pure bred Spanish horse bloodlines. Cortes, with four decades of professional Equestrian experience, who has competed at top level Dressage, Vaquera and Morfológico classes, specialisies in black, chestnut and Dun colours.

Cortes bred leading Black stallions, including Justiciero XI, Boquete, and Ingrato IX, and has supplied horses to top Equestrian centres in Camica Do Pont, America, and Philip Arias in France.
